Water Utilities
There’s a perfect storm facing the industry and you probably feel like it’s just getting stronger given the:
- scale of operations.
- cost to maintain and repair the infrastructure.
- pressure to modernise and adapt.
Leakage is a prime example of this perfect storm as:
- it exists on a huge scale: 3,113 million litres of water is lost per day in the United Kingdom.
- the direct financial cost of this is staggering with the fines levied by Ofwat for exceeding the daily limit.
- there is pressure to reduce leakage due to population growth, sustainability, strategic resilience and to mitigate fines.
There are also wider challenges facing the industry, which include the overreliance on costly and disruptive reactive repairs rather proactive maintenance, risk of disruption to the water supply, and lack of control over critical data.
Investing in technology is an important step in reducing leakage – something that you’re aware of – and but there is more that can be done and that’s where we can help. Partnering with EES Data Solutions provides the industry and digital experience that you need to improve your operational performance, quality, and reliability.
How EES Data Solutions can realise benefits for the water industry
While we have a full range of services (including Data UX and Business Intelligence) that you can use, our Advanced Analytics will be particularly beneficial. Our predictive and prescriptive analytics services would modernise the detection and prevention of leakage, breakdowns, and blockages. It would also automate sending alerts directly to the right teams.
As necessary maintenance actions can be implemented well in advance, your operations will shift from reactive measures to proactive actions. This offers:
- Reduced direct and indirect costs.
- Improved reputation (and lower risk of reputational damage).
- Increased safety (and fewer accidents).
- Optimised treatment processes.
A current case study
We conducted a piece of Value Analysis Value Engineering for Severn Trent Water to assess the current state of the network and the sensors within the field. We studied the engineering design and the Bill of Materials to identify low-cost alternatives. Analysing their sensor data, we found where infrastructure and engineering design could be improved providing our client with real value from their own data. Our data capability paired with robust engineering knowledge gave an end-to-end solution.
Understanding that there is a problem, what the cause is, and what to do about it enabled them to move forward
